Velvet Buzzsaw (2019): Dan Gilroy and Jake Gyllenhaal Team Up Once Again, And It Doesn’t Go As Well

The best thing about Velvet Buzzsaw is Jake Gyllenhaal and you’re better off seeing him in Dan Gilroy’s better attempt, Nightcrawler. I don’t hate Velvet Buzzsaw, but I cannot think of one good reason to recommend it, largely due to its failed combination of genres. C+

Nightcrawler (2014): Dan Gilroy and Jake Gyllenhaal Team Up To Create A Masterpiece

Nightcrawler is definitely Jake Gyllenhaal’s best work, and Dan Gilroy’s best movie, with stellar writing and acting and a great, engaging storyline that does a wonderful job of exploring the depths of depravity of modern consumer culture. A

Polar (2019): Netflix’s Latest Offering is All Show With No Depth

Polar is a superficial action flick with zany costumes, gratuitous sex, violence, and not much else to it. It is a whole lot of fun for people who enjoy movies with these and only these elements, but, for the rest of you who might want more cerebral fare, I would suggest you look elsewhere.
